All of us eagerly look forward to an amazing weekend but somehow by either trying to do it all or do nothing at all we find that our weekends were not as satisfying as we would have liked them to be. Here we give you a few tips to smartly make the best of those two important days every week!
Plan – Now I know this sounds weird. You plan your work all the time and now you want to relax. Why would you
want to ‘plan’ your weekend? Well, making the best of any time comes when you plan. Time management doesn’t spoil the fun but makes sure you get the best out of all the available time. Make a list of all the chores that need to be done and make sure you make time for them. That way you are not left at the end of the weekend wondering why you didn’t finish them! And the small things that you want to do will not be left undone. It is always wise to plan.
Strictly no work – The most important rule to a good weekend is strictly ‘no work’. It might take a lot of will power for some but you need to keep those office calls and emails away. Weekends are your time for yourself, do whatever you want to do to unwind and get rid of the stress. We hear about detoxing the body but you need to ‘detox’ your mind too! So forget the office problems until Monday and go and chill!
Do not over-do it – After the tiring and boring weekdays at work we always want the weekends to be spectacular to blow off the steam. But in the process of refreshing we always tend to overdo things which is why we end up physically or mentally exhausted. Either we end up having too much activity or absolutely none at all. Strike a balance and do not over do anything, relaxation or otherwise. Limit the amount you drink, eat, shop or spend so that you aren't left tired or hung-over because of an 'over-done' weekend!
Books – Many of us need a physical break from too much of activity during the week. So we prefer
to sit indoors. In that case our mind still needs the exercise. So the best option would be to read books. All those books, old or new, that are lying on your bookshelf or in the neighborhood library that you have not had time to read. Now is the time for them. Books can be the best, fun pass time for you. You can also resort to puzzle books, games, etc. that act as mind stimulants. But make sure they are the real deal of paper books and not e-books. The real fun of reading comes when you can place them in your hands and read them in any position that suits you. You can create accompaniment for the book with something like a cup of coffee, a glass of wine, soft music and you have the perfect relaxed weekend.
Keep technology away – Most of our work days revolve around technology - including our cell phones, I pods, PC's, et al. What we need during the weekend is a break from too much technology. Keep your cell phone as far from you as you can. Try not to resort to the PC or laptop at home and minimize TV time. Use your weekends to bond with family and friends or do some manual work around the house like gardening or cleaning, etc. Do not simply resort to using technology again for entertainment. Limit your dependence on them and use your time more personally rather than resorting to impersonal technology.
